The Public Markets of Mexico City are one of the highlights of any visit. They're not just places to stock a hotel room with fruit, but mini-universes of local culture, commerce, and agricultural innovation.

These are among the best places to eat in the City. All of the Mercados Publicos in Mexico City include prepared food. It's served at comida corridas, fondas, and antojerías. There's dozens of different ways to call Mexican eateries that aren't exactly restaurants. But the point is, if the food is coming in here off a truck, it's fresh!

There are more than 400 of these markets in Mexico City. Some are a little upscale. Some are nearly unchanged in 50 years. Some are even older. Those are indicated in the map with the "Historical" marker but all of them are part of what makes a trip to Mexico City so exciting.
