Mexico City's Metro Line 12 opened as a grand triumph and even something of an engineering marvel in 2012. Connecting Mixcoac in the west with the ancient southwest of Iztapalapa and once super-distant Tláhuac.
Unfortunately, in 2021 elevated sections of the train collapsed resulting in tragic deaths that shook the entire city. Years of meticulous reconstruction followed and very nearly resulted in the replacement of the entire east end of the line.
Today, international travelers are encouraged to take the line to its distant ends. San Pedro Tláhuac is about 10 minutes in a taxi from terminal station Tláhuac. Along the way, the famous chinampa farm fields are everywhere visible. And the boat launch at the Lake of the Aztec Kings is just a few minutes further from San Pedro.
One of the points of this page is to show that every station until the very end has its own fascinating story. The elevated stations allow for outstanding views. The Sierra de Santa Catarina is just a prelude to a landscape that is exceptional, unique, and quickly changing to some of the City's most important agricultural and eco-touristic territory.
