LLANO is an arts platform focused on artists whose production is the result of long-term research. The community of artists include many who work with science, history, technology, and sometimes, forgotten wisdom. The gallery works to highlight thought processes and thorough research, creating crossed points of reference and strong bonds with work. It also aims to take the spectator beyond traditional exhibition formats and deeper into the original sources of the work.

The project has also worked to expand the exhibition space. They’ve presented art in a tremendous number of natural and urban environments. The point to build bridges between spectator and the profound reasons that hold artworks together. All the while presenting art in unexpected environments, the method has worked.

For Gallery Weekend Mexico 2021, the platform presented the exhibition, “Sharper Than a Serpent’s Tooth” by artist Lorena Ancona. The phrase is from Shakespeare’s King Lear. But Ancona came across it in an article about the discovery at the Mayan site of Xunantunich, and two panels from Caracol (both in Belize). The take is both ecological and startling in light of the present climate of environmental devastation.

LLANO is an important focal point in the quickly growing Colonia Doctores. One among a few newer cultural stops, the work is thoughtful, and often profound.

Hours: Tuesday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and by appointment (info@llano.mx)
