Galería Ethra

The Galería Ethra was founded in 2008 by husband and wife duo, Rodrigo Borrás and Andrea Walther. One of the most successful galleries in the Zona Rosa area, in 2018 the outfit moved to a much bigger space. In the Anáhuac neighborhood (just northeast of Polanco) they’ve been able to fill an enormous post-industrial space not often seen in Mexico City.

It’s a thoroughly Mexico City space, nevertheless. Artists exhibited, however, hail from a good range of international cities. And this gives the art on view at Ethra always something a little heavier. It’s an involved and serious venue even when foisting the most light-hearted of works.

The gallery was intended to combine a dissemination of visual arts with commercial mediation. An annual exhibition program focuses on the work of mid-career and established, national and international artists. Promoting art collecting in Mexico remains a big part of the gallery’s ongoing mission.

Today’s Galería Ethra is a near-constant on Gallery Weekend or the Zona Maco art fair each February. But the ongoing slate of exhibitions, individual and group shows seem to always pack a punch.
