Casa Equis

Casa Equis combines an independent art space with the traditional art gallery, offering not just ongoing exhibitions and lively openings, but a space for artists’ residencies too. Emerging from an apartment in the always fashionable Santa María la Ribera neighborhood, the space has been dishing up art only since 2018. Still, the impact made on the local scene has been already been significant.

The gallery is currently at home in a commercial space in the same neighborhood, not far from the El Chopo museum and Rio San Cosme. With four exhibition spaces off of the main gallery, they’ve somehow exhibited works by more than 60 artists in just a couple of years. These have varied widely in terms of trajectory, age, style, subject matter and theme.

The four spaces are intended for individual exhibitions and sometimes host curated projects. The schedule rotates constantly. Casa Equis is also a warm space where visitors can approach art from a decontracted place. The program for artist residencies and cultural events including talks, workshops, and courses, runs parallel to the main gallery. Being managed by artists of the same generation as those represented, Casa Equis is also a meeting point, coexistence and a platform to generate other projects in addition to common interests.
