The Foro A Poco No is an exciting and tiny cabaret-style theater on the República de Cuba in the Mexico City center. Practically back-to-back with the Esperanza Iris City Theater, it’s run by the same people. That is, it’s part of the theater program of the CDMX Secretary of Culture. It’s an innovative and intimate setting that seems to only host the most special and specific kinds of events. Audience interaction remains a hallmark.
The venue named comes from a song. A Poco No was written Pepe Guízar and later made famous by Esperanza Iris in the 1938 movie, Noches de gloria.
The space officially opened in 2009. Spectators number between just 50 and 70 at every performance. But over the course of its 15-year history, thousands have taken part. Shows nearly always sell out.
Cabaret and stand up comedy are the norm. Political satires have also played out here. Some productions have leant towards dance, performance art, small concerts, and recitals. But the list of memorable performances here only continues to get longer. Foro A Poco No has hosted the International Cabaret Festival and the 39th edition of the National Theater Festival.
Box office hours are normally just one hour prior to performance but Ticketmaster handles pre-event sales.
