Metro Velódromo is along a dramatically elevated stretch of Metro Line 9. The hopefully suggests how sweeping the views can be from up on high. This is just one of the stations from which you can arrive to the Palacio de los Deportes, although of course, it’s even closer to the Agustín Melgar Olympic Velodrome for which it was named, and to which the station logo clearly makes reference.
Having opened in August of 1987, the station serves the Jardín Balbuena neighborhood in Venustiano Carranza and the Granjas México neighborhood in Iztacalco. Both colonias are oriented around the giant sports facilities on both sides of the Metro line. It’s a fascinating area.
On the grounds for the western ends of the Ciudad Deportiva de la Magdalena Mixiuhca, Metro Velódromo is an exceptionally convenient station for many of the most important areas there. The Foro Sol can be reached from here or from the next station on the Pantitlan-bound line, at Metro Ciudad Deportiva.
