Aguafuerte Galería

The Aguafuerte Galería is an old-school contemporary art gallery that emerged during the first wave of Roma Norte Galleries. The gallery opened in 2005 already championing the work of Mexican and international artists. It was with the hiring of director Israel Alvarado Torres that the gallery took a turn toward the political, social, local, and global. Since then the art has run the gamut from the figuration to high abstraction but the edgy topics only seemed to build audience.
The gallery has maintained a permanent collection that includes (or has included) works by Leonora Carrington, Gustave Courbet, Cuevas, Toledo, Felguérez, Vicente Rojo, Tamayo, and Mérida,  among others. The Roma Norte space includes a permanent exhibition of some of these artists. These can also be circulated through a space maintained in Val´Quirico, in Tlaxcala. A Tequisquiapan, Querétaro space closed in 2021.

Approaching 350 separate exhibitions, Aguafuerte has shown the work of more than 1,700 artists. They’ve played a vital role in working to promote some of Mexico most advanced and lesser-known graphic artists. Beyond exhibitions, the gallery has offered art workshops, book presentations and some very successful auctions. In all, more than a thousand artists have participated.

Aguafuerte Galería also maintains a team of experts in curations, consulting in buying and selling art, as well as in curation and display. In the heart of Roma Norte’s gallery district, it’s a must stop when you’re passing by.

Hours: Tuesday through Saturday, 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday/Monday, 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.
