The San Jerónimo Area is a must-visit for those seeking the posher side of La Magdalena Contreras. The most accessible and nearby of Magdalena's four original settlements, it's also easily the most well-to-do.
Part of the community's success is its privileged location. And already set in amongst the rugged landscape for which the larger alcaldía is famous, San Jerónimo boasts an enormous number of historical buildings. Most are from the 19th century. But it means there are dozens of charming side-streets and cobble-stone alleyways to explore.
While the San Jerónimo area may never get the crowds of international visitors that you'll see in neighboring San Ángel, that makes it that much more special.
