Mercado Azcapotzalco

El Mercado Azcapotzalco is the renter of the Azcapotzalco historic center. It’s a bustling hub of commerce and alive with eateries and more. It’s not just full of friendly people but the freshest food, too.

The Mercado Siglo XX was the neighborhood’s original market and opened just a block away in 1901. When that facility outgrew its space, Azcapotzalco authorities called in the renowned architect  Pedro Ramírez Vázquez, (click for more information. He’s one of the greats) who delivered the new market in 1957. Since then the site has been home to more than 500 vendors and welcomes thousands of local and outside customers each week.

It’s also an increasingly important place for international visitors. Because it has such fresh food, visitors gets good food and at the same time they’re supporting small, local, independent businesses and even farmers. Some of them are not too far away.

The Mercado Azcapotzalco is also, as mentioned above, central. Therefore, the whole Centro de Azcapotzalco is within walking distance. Most visitors arrive at Parque Azcapotzalco, just to the north. Although the better part of the area is actually to the south. That includes metro Camarones.
