Patio Clavería

The Patio Clavería is a very fortunately positioned small shopping center in the neighborhood of the same name. While it’s not exactly a community center in its own right, the Patio stands just south of the Mercado Clavería and the Clavería Glorieta. The Glorieta and the Parque de la China to the east delineate the true core of the Clavería neighborhood.

The shopping center opened in 2014. It was a real shot in the arm for the neighborhood, and the Avenida Clavería seemed to double in pedestrians and shops overnight. That’s exactly the opposite of the predicted effect of opening a shopping center in a traditional neighborhood. With just 45 shops, the Patio includes a cinema and the gamut of corporate outlets that one expects in these kinds of leasing situations. Nevertheless, as a neighborhood anchor, it ends up drawing people who come for the surrounding streets and the flavor of the old neighborhood. In fact, the original Casa del Toño restaurant is just around the corner from this newer version in the Patio. These two are among some 50+ branches of the popular pozole chain across greater Mexico City.

The Patio Clavería is just about a 12-minute walk north from Metro Cuitláhuac. It’s perhaps a bit further from Metro Tacuba. But visitors often stop here on trips in the larger Clavería and Nueva Santa María areas.
