Patio Revolución

Patio Revolución is a small shopping center on the very edge of San Ángel. Opened in 2016, it brought a welcome central place for shopping in the area, and especially on the busy lower Avenida Revolución. The project was undertaken by Lemus Architects who’ve built a tremendous number of smaller and mid-sized shopping centers across Mexico City. Among the best known are the Encuentro Fortuna and the Patio Clavería.

Like any modern commercial space, it’s not entirely integrated with the surrounding town. In fact, the setting on the often-traffic-snarled avenue means it actually nicely fills a peripheral space. On just other side of the avenue is the charming Chimalistac neighborhood. These were the former orchards of the Carmelite Monastery that begins the colonial history of San Ángel.

With just about 50 shops, among them are a good variety of “international” eateries. These can be important for visitors looking to tone down their exotic intake and like any shopping mall. it can provide some mellower fare. It’s a small shopping center, but one that maintains a standard of quality you might not find on the streets outside. A balance between the two will be important. For those still looking for Mexican food, the Mercado Melchor Muzquiz is less than a block up the avenue.
