Jardín del Arte San Ángel (Saturday Arts Market)

The Jardín del Arte San Ángel began in 1958. It’s long been a coordinated effort between here and a similar event that happens in the Jardín del Arte in San Rafael. The Plaza San Jacinto is filled with the works of visual artists from all over the region.

With more than 500 artists, the entire park is dedicated to painting, sculpture, photography, and more. It also significantly contributes to San Ángel‘s reputation as one of the City’s Great Walking Neighborhoods.

The truth is, San Ángel has long been considered an artistic refuge. With the tremendous number of historic buildings and mature shade trees, it’s a poetic environment. The Sunday Arts Market is just a natural outgrowth, following the people already involved in creative pursuits.

If you’re not in San Ángel on a Saturday, many of the vendors have taken permanent digs in the surrounding area. Walks along Juárez or the Calle de la Amargura are rewarded with dozens of shops. But as it’s a shady and pleasant neighborhood year round, the Sunday Arts Market just makes for a concentrated look into who’s doing what, and how good things can look.
