Mercado Reynosa Tamaulipas

Mercado Reynosa Tamaulipas
The Mercado Reynosa Tamaulipas is the main neighborhood market for the San Andrés Tetlanman neighborhood in Azcapotzalco. One of the 25 original settlements of Azcapotzalco, San Andrés is centered around the market which is fronted by a small park. The San Andrés Chapel is just about a block to the north and east of the market.

The market was rehabbed in 2015 after a fire shut it down almost completely. A 2017 UAM study counted some 217 merchants in the market proper. That number will fluctuate some, depending on season and weather. Surrounding streets also absorb some number of merchants looking to take advantage of the town’s pedestrian traffic. But amongst all these vendors, it’s important to remember that a good number are selling prepared food with sit-down service every day.

  • Reynosa is a city on the Texas border of the northeastern Mexican state of Tamaulipas. Founded in 1749, it became a city in 1926. Today, it’s best known for the border-crossing and shared culture with the Texas city of McAllen.

The Mercado Reynosa Tamaulipas is less than a ten-minute walk from the Metro UAM Azcapotzalco station. The Santa Barbara Tetlanman neighborhood, another original settlement, is just a few minutes walk directly north from the center of the historic town.

Hours: Daily, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
