The Mercado Primero de Diciembre is a neighborhood market in Colonia Narvarte Poniente. Just two blocks directly south of the Parque Delta shopping center, it provides welcome relief to those trying to find lunch in the area. The market is just a block and a half east of the busy Avenida Cuauhtémoc (which runs in front of the mall).
That makes it something of a big deal as the avenue is lined with much higher-rent food outlets. Here, you get real food, and for a fraction of the price. A 2017 UAM study counted some 180 individual vendors here. And while that number is going to fluctuate, it’s a good-sized market with the ready mix of anything you could possibly need.
But for international visitors, especially those gorging on street tacos and gawping at plastic picture menus, it’s a lifesaver. Eateries are personal, preparing lunches every day. With prix-fix menus and usually three courses, you get to eat like your Mexican mom was cooking. And food is fresher, smarter, and healthier.
Take a long walk around, and have a look at the daily menus. Have a look at everything else, too. It’s close, friendly, and open every day.
