Le Laboratoire is a contemporary art gallery in the San Miguel Chapultepec neighborhood. Founded in 2008 by French-born gallerist, Julien Cuisset, the gallery took its name from the Cuisset family’s medical analysis laboratory in France. Cuisset arrived in Mexico later in life. He’s one of the founding members of the Mexican Association of Art Galleries (Galerías de Arte Mexicanas Asociadas – GAMA). Since its inception in 2021, GAMA has worked to strengthen bonds among gallerists, patrons, and artists, across the Mexican landscape.
The gallery operates as an art incubator, and as a bridge between artists and market players. It’s been important to the development of a number of artistic projects. The gallery also works in collaboration with institutions, cultural centers, other galleries, and individuals to develop programs and materials. Some of these have happened in other parts of Mexico City.
Le Laboratoire also does extensive consulting work. This includes research, certification, appraisal, and intermediation. They also do consulting on the purchase and sale of works for private and public collections.
The gallery tends to focus on abstraction in the biggest, broadest sense. Artists present works in multiple techniques, formats, and technical resolutions. Past exhibitions have included photography, graphics, performance, video art, and audio work. The stable consists of artists Mexican by birth, and those living and working in the country.
