Galerías Insurgentes

The Galerías Insurgentes shopping complex is merely nicely fronted by the Liverpool department store pictured above. The better part of the larger shopping mall opens up just south of here. With normally about 100 retailers, it’s one of the biggest shopping centers in Central Mexico City.

  • Popping into the Liverpool, out-of-town visitors are in for a treat. It’s one of the premier properties operated by the Liverpool group.

Now taking up a good portion of the original village of Actipan, the Galerías cover the northwest corner of the neighborhood of the same name. For shoppers it’s a good trip into some of the City’s best retail. It may not all live up to the extremes of design you’ll see in the Liverpool anchor store, but it is usually noted for the giant Longines clock over the entranceway to main arcade. And an arcade it really is.

This shopping complex very notably sparked a retail and office boom along both sides of Insurgentes avenue. Having opened in 1992, the mall has been almost reduced by the openings of nearby competing shopping centers, and a giant Walmart directly to the east. Nevertheless, it’s been an important presence for the surrounding communities. And that’s not even to mention the many workers commuting to the area for work, school, and leisure.

  • The Metro Insurgentes Sur station has an exit directly into the northernmost part of the complex.
  • The Metrobús Line 1 station is Felix Cuevas
