Arroniz Arte Contemporáneo: Contemporary Art Gallery

Galería Arroniz Arte Contemporáneo was conceived in the 1980s by art historian, Leticia Arroniz. She was curating the work of some of the big names on the Mexican art scene at the time. Among them were José Luis Cuevas, Vicente Rojo, Carla Rippey, the Castro Leñero brothers, Manuel Felguérez and Joy Laville. The aim then, as now, was to present many of the rising star artists from Mexico and Latin America. 

Originally in the Plaza Rio de Janeiro in the Colonia Roma, Arróniz Arte Contemporáneo opened a new space on calle Tabasco after the 2017 earthquake. Opened in February of 2018, the gallery area was remodeled by the esteemed Taller JSa architecture firm under the direction of Javier Sánchez. The new space offers an exhibition dynamic with a principle gallery and a project room. The project room exhibits works developed specific to the site.

The gallery unites well-known artists, curators, and institutions from the contemporary art scene in Mexico City, and that includes many of the top Latin American artists. 

It’s an obligatory stop not only for art connoisseurs and for anyone curious about contemporary art in Latin America. It’s also a regular participant in the art gallery walks and tours that cover many of the galleries in the neighborhood.     

Hours: Monday to Friday: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturdays: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
