Centro Cultural Los Talleres

Centro Cultural Los Talleres

The Centro Cultural Los Talleres is one of the leading contemporary dance institutions in the City. With two locations in Coyoacán, the Francisco Sosa location is the headquarters.

The center opened in 1981 as a multidisciplinary project involving both visual arts and dance. It came to concentrate on contemporary dance within a few years although related disciplines still form a good part of the school’s itinerary. In the 1990s it was consolidated as the only independent forum for contemporary dance, and one with a national and international program. They also added a yoga area, with an emphasis on hatha yoga for dancers.

By the 2000s, Los Talleres were hosting formal residencies for the academic development of teachers and students. These residencies worked to receive international dancers, and to send local students abroad. Programs expanded to include some martial arts, visual arts, and cinema. The center is also well represented across the City, and national, dance scenes.

Today, the Centro Cultural Los Talleres, meaning simply, “the workshops,” is one of the most active spots in the Centro de Coyoacán. Recitals and exhibitions are taking place nearly year-round. The center’s Facebook page is just about the only way to keep up with everything going on.
