La Raza Area

The La Raza Area is a major landmark and transfer point for Mexico City residents. It's a difficult one because it's also home to a major highway intersection that makes understanding the area none to easy.

The Calzada Vallejo, crossing the intersection from the City Center, is part of the old Camino Real de Tierra Adentro. It was recognized by UNESCO as part of the World Heritage List.

It's also the intersection of three major alcaldías:

  • Azcapotzalco - Northwest of La Raza
  • Cuauhtémoc - South of La Raza
  • Gustavo A. Madero - Northeast of La Raza

If all that weren't enough, just understanding the La Raza monument for which the area is named is a feat for scholars. Some of those scholars might also say that the area is technically named for the giant medical complex. It's an important one. (See below.)
