Mercado de la Postal

The Mercado de la Postal Zona is among the best-loved of Public Markets in the northeast of the Benito Juárez Alcaldía. It’s not an ancient tianguis, and it’s not a super-visited tourist area.

But this market seems to make up for it in sheer enthusiasm. Public markets that maintain an active social media presence are often the markets most welcoming to outsiders. For international visitors that can be a big reassurance. Walking inside is even more reassuring.

Lots of international visitors will think this is a great place to buy kilos of fruit. It is that. But in fact, the market is a great place for prepared food too. If you’ve had your fill of street food and tacos, head for the market.

  • We set up a whole page to guide you through the biggest misunderstandings about markets, comida corrida, the daily menu, and mysterious fonda. You can read that in a few minutes and be eating much better while supporting some of the smallest businesses, and even local farmers.

The Mercado Postal is technically in the colonia Miguel Alemán, just below the park at the center of the two neighborhoods. Colonia Postal is just to the north. The market is also at the center of the neighborhood’s small commercial center. Anything that can’t be found inside will be available in the surrounding streets.
