Mercado de Comidas Fuentes Brotantes

mercado fuentes brotantes

_

The Mercado de Comidas Fuentes Brotantes is the Lunch Market for a popular neighborhood and national park. It’s quite a lovely agglomeration of prepared food sellers with ices and treats alongside the comida corridas and antojitos. And because this is Mexico City, you’re almost guaranteed to get something truly excellent here. In general, between eight and ten eateries are preparing food here every day.

Like the market in Huipulco (outside the stadium), this one sprung up to meet the needs of hungry visitors to the Fuentes Brotantes National Park. That means, it’s not the giant produce distribution center for the neighborhood. Rather, it’s a good place to get lunch, and the kind of place with specialties that locals will regularly stop in for. It’s even on the park grounds. If you’re in the area or planning to visit, the fact is, you don’t need to pack a picnic.

As it’s mostly an outdoor affair, the Mercado de Comidas Fuentes Brotantes operates a little more casually than many of the bigger markets in the city. But that’s not to say you won’t get excellent service. There’s perhaps a bit more English spoken, but for those truly in desperate straits, pointing and gesturing will also work pretty well.

If you’ve visited the center of Santa Úrsula Xitla, and the beloved Calvary Chapel near the entrance to the National Park, the market will come as a pleasant relief. You really can visit, and eat well, all in a very short stretch of time.
