Salón Tenampa

With a century of history, this venue remains the most emblematic cantina of Plaza Garibaldi.

Its interior presents an unmistakable visual aesthetic, defined by dozens of colorful murals painted on the walls and ceiling that pay tribute to legends of Mexican music like Lola Beltrán, José Alfredo Jiménez, and Pedro Infante.

The furniture consists of wooden tables and equipal-style chairs grouped in various spacious halls.

The establishment dispenses with a central stage with electronic amplification systems.

The music is completely acoustic and on-demand; it is customary for mariachi groups, norteño trios, and son jarocho ensembles to enter from the plaza and circulate freely among the tables.

Customers hire the songs directly with the musicians, who set up at the foot of the table to perform the requested tracks.

The hall’s acoustics are characterized by the natural sound of string and wind instruments.

The internal volume is high due to the multiple groups playing simultaneously at different angles, coupled with the voices of the crowd singing along to the traditional choruses and the constant clinking of glassware at adjacent tables.

The clientele is a reflection of the place’s international popularity.

The hall daily receives tourists seeking the classic capital experience, office workers, politicians, and city inhabitants celebrating birthdays or anniversaries.

The menu is deeply rooted in Mexican cantina food.

Orders include traditional dishes such as Jalisco-style birria, pork shanks (chamorros), melted cheese, and guacamole.

The bar dispatches blanco and reposado tequilas, mezcals, cold beers, and its flagship “pomegranate punch” (ponche de granada), a sweet drink that has become the house signature.
