La Tapatía is a giant kids’ space within Chapultepec Section 2. The playground was built and planned in the shape of an amoeba. 13 different play modules allow kids from ages 2 to 12 to explore, imagine, and experience something completely unique. It’s the biggest kids’ playground in Chapultepec and likely in this part of the City.
La Tapatía stands as one of the first places that strollers encounter when crossing from Chapultpec Section 1 on the Calzada Flotante. It’s a big, big space, just shy of 9,000 square meters. It’s also an environmentally sustainable design. Pavement is kid-friendly and lighting is provided by solar panels. Originally opened in 2009, the beloved space has been rehabbed a few times. But it keeps getting better. Today, the equipment is overwhelmingly in good order, even despite the hundreds of kids visiting every day.
The kids’ play areas and equipment also allow for wheelchair access. The plan included lots of shady places for older adults to sit and watch. A few food vendors also operate just outside along the main street.
The Parque Aztlán and the Lago Mayor are both just a short walk away. But kids won’t likely want to leave too soon.
