Alianza Francesa San Ángel

The Alianza Francesa San Ángel is among four such cultural centers in Mexico City, and these among the 26 total across Mexico. Around the world, there are some 1,300 Alianzas Francesa in 135 countries. The organization was begun in 1884 by Jules Verne and Louis Pasteur among other prominent founders.

Principally a language school, the center in San Ángel is also an important site for exhibitions, lectures, screenings and events relevant to the entire community. While focus has generally been on relations between the peoples of Mexico and France, there is almost no limit to the range and themes covered by cultural programming.

The Alianza frequently hosts concerts, courses, art shows, conferences, and plenty of activities for kids, too. They also coordinate with other local and national organizations to provide programming for students, and members of the broader community. Part of the same network of cultural and language centers, the Alianza also operates in Del Valle, Polanco, and in Interlomas to the City’s west.

The Alianza Francesa San Ángel is in a privileged location between the San Luis Potosi and Bombilla parks. For guests, it’s often a fun stop on walks through ancient Chimalistac and the center of always walkable San Ángel.

Hours: Weekdays, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
