The Centro de Coyoacán is the historic center of the alcaldía and an important and influential part of the whole of Mexico City. The very character of these few square blocks of streets and gardens seems to color the idea of the city, if not some part of the entire country.
Visitor's come for the Frida Kahlo Museum, but soon discover the central gardens and the surrounding streets. The market, the mature trees, and the cobblestone streets all seem to conspire and converge here. The result is charm at just about every turn.
With some truly world class museums, restaurants, memorable food and plenty to see and remember, it's a big area. We've included here three separate colonias. The Colonia del Carmen lies to the north and includes even the Viveros Park to the west. Southwest is Santa Catarina. And La Concepcion is Southeast.
Note that the original settlement of San Diego Churubusco lies directly to the east, and is but a first stop in the broader Churubusco Area.
