Mercado Corpus Christi

The Mercado Corpus Christi is a neighborhood market in the colonia of the same name. Fully renovated in 2020, 54 years after opening, today it’s the pride of the area.

Some 87 merchants are gathered under one roof. This is in the rugged Corpus Christi area where moving from one street to the next often involves a climb, a descent, and another climb. Álvaro Obregón just gets more rugged the further south and west one goes.

So having a central commercial zone, one with a solid floor, is that much more important. International guests get far better food, including full, prepared meals, than would be available in restrictive commercial properties like those further west. In amongst all the merchants are a good number who rely on the daily deliveries to keep their kitchens going.

You get daily prepared meals, and the prices are outstanding. You’re supporting smaller, independent businesses and farmers. You’re also eating way better than is even possible in cleaner fashion malls and commercial centers restricted to monopoly distributors.

The Mercado Corpus Christi is often visited on trips into the far south and west. The Desierto de los Leones National Park is but an ultimate destination. Along the way, there’s lots to see and discover. The market is just one stop.
