Galería López Quiroga

galeria lopez quiroga

The Galería López Quiroga opened in 1980 in the center of Polanco. Since then, its many exhibitions have leaned towards photography Dealer and gallery owner Ramón López Quiroga is also a collector and critic of modern and contemporary art in just about all of its forms.

A frequent publisher of catalogs and books on painters and painting, the gallery has long been one of the Polanco art scene’s bigger players. The gallery deals in paintings, graphics, sculptural works, and sustains itself principally as an outlet for fine photography.

In the past, the gallery has dealt in works by Francisco Toledo, David Alfaro Siqueiros, Roberto Matta, Sebastiao Salgado, and Rufino Tamayo. Younger generations include artists like Miguel Castro Leñero, Francisco Castro Leñero, Irma Palacios, and Vicente Rojo.

The Galería López Quiroga is in the blue-chip district in Polanco. It’s not for the faint hearted. But for international visitors determined to return home with something real from Mexico, it’s a very good place to start. There’s also a small shop that sells some of the publications and catalogs the gallery has been involved with publishing.

The gallery shares its city block with a couple of other galleries. And clearly, it’s a central easy-to-navigate section of Polanco.
