The Schwarsctein Galería began in 1980 in Lomas de Chapultepec. Over the years, it grew into a Polanco institution, not just of fine and contemporary art, but of education, and a high-energy commitment to the Latin American scene.

Founded by Bertha Schwarsctein in 1980, in 1985 it was relaunched as the Grupo Arte Contemporáneo in partnership with Reyna Henaine de Larriva. The gallery quickly grew to handle works by artists like Raul Anguiano, Juan Soriano, Leonardo Nierman, Leonel Maciel, Jazzamoart and Felipe Castañeda and others. The focus expanded to include numbered lithographs, serigraphs, and engravings. By the 1990s, the gallery was involved with several publishing projects.

In 1994, the Schwarsctein Galería was relaunched when co-founder Reyna Henaine moved to New York. The gallery relocated in 2007, after taking on increasingly important Cuban artists. Today, the gallery exhibits important young artists and many who are recognized nationally and internationally. Works include painting, sculpture, ceramics, tapestry and photography.

Cultural activities include happenings, performances, art history courses, and painting for youth and adults, along with services to corporate and private collectors, museography, curatorship, and appraisals.

As a Polanco institution, the gallery is within easy walking distance of most of Polanco. It’s about three-minutes walk from the Metro Polanco station.
