House of Gaga is eclectic contemporary art gallery in the Condesa neighborhood. Founded by Fernando Mesta and José Rojas in 2008, the point was to create a rewarding outlet for local and international artists then emerging.
Both Mesta and Rojas were interested in the earliest waves of contemporary art. House of Gaga was opened to focus on the work of younger artists from all over the world. Mesta is an experienced artist who’s worked as a curator. From 1999 to 2002, he worked at the gallery, Air de Paris and at Kurimanzutto in Mexico City. Rojas is an architect who focuses on design. His work has been well received in a number international showcases.
The Gaga space is in a five-bedroom Arte-Deco-era house where Mesta and Rojas also live.Visiting artists often stay there to focus on collaborating and installing exhibitions. It often creates a link between the gallerists and their artists. Beginning in 2008, House of Gaga went on to exhibit the work of contemporary artists like French collective, Claire Fontaine, Canadian artist, Julien Ceccaldi, and the Kenyan performance artist Cosima von Bonin.
The gallery has been something of an international reference to contemporary art. The duo opened a second location in Los Angeles, California.
House of Gaga is located in Amsterdam street, one of the most beautiful and wooded avenues of the neighborhood. You can take a walk and get to know one of the most iconic boroughs of Mexico City.
