As the nation's capital, Mexico City has always hosted members of the armed forces. As the City has played a role in so much of the country's history, so the military has often been a part of that story too.
For visitors from other countries, Mexico's military can seem distant and austere. But the military has also long played a role in supporting an understanding of the country's historical, cultural, and political life. The museums run by the armed forces, or directly dealing with military affairs and history, are a part of that understanding.
You may find deep insight into the country's history. But you can also wax a quick understanding of that same history's general contours from many of the Military Museums. All of them are open to the public (with a few exceptions) and each will be happy to have you visit.
