Museo de la Charrería

Located in the heart of the Historic Center, this space operates as the ideal cultural prelude before immersing oneself in the lienzos or nocturnal folkloric shows.

Installed in the former Temple and Convent of Nuestra Señora de Montserrat, a historical building from the viceregal era, the premises were granted to the Mexican Federation of Charrería to function as the documentary custodian of the national sport.

The architecture of the place stands out for its arches and high ceilings, originally designed for ecclesiastical acoustics.

These characteristics endow the halls with a solemn atmosphere, very different from the hustle and bustle of the arenas and fairs.

The environment is strictly configured for reading and visual appreciation of the historical legacy of the horsemen and amazons.

The museographic collection exhibits the historical evolution of equestrian practice from the 19th century to the modern stage.

Visitors can observe up close collections of leather-chiseled saddles, silver harnesses, bits, and spurs.

The vast display of traditional clothing stands out, including charro gala suits, period hats, and escaramuza dresses belonging to illustrious figures of Mexican history.

The public that walks its halls usually consists of historians, international tourists interested in Mexican iconography, and design students.

The visit is carried out at a leisurely and contemplative pace.

It functions as the fundamental educational stop to understand the symbolism of the suits and the charro skills that are later seen in the shows.
