Mercado San Miguel Torres

The Mercado San Miguel Torres fronts the popular Arcos Parque and Emiliano Zapata Civic Plaza. As the biggest building in this part of Iztapalapa, it’s become the popular subject of photos taken from Line 2 of the Cablebús. The cable car passes directly overhead. The San Miguel Teotongo station requires a roughly 15-minute walk up the hill to the south.

Settled only since 1970, the Mercado San Miguel Torres has become an essential part of the “lower” neighborhood. Amongst the merchants, there are a good number serving ready-cooked meals. It’s a great place to eat, and for international travelers, it’s a good alternative to restaurants and street food. It’s an enormous place,

The market is named for both the neighborhood, and for this stretch of the Avenida de las Torres. It cuts prominently east-west across this part of San Miguel Teotongo. It continues into Los Reyes in Mexico State, across the Puebla highway to the east. It’s a good place to see how quickly the neighborhood is changing. As a place to eat, it’s unbeatable.
