The Calzada de los Poetas (Causeway of the Poets) is a tree-lined walkway running north-south in the first section of Chapultepec Park. Poetic in and of itself, the thoroughfare honors famous poets from the history of Spanish letters. The Calzada runs parallel to another honoring philosophers (Calzada de los filosofos) and intersects, three quarters of its length with the important Calzada del Rey which runs east-west.
The Calzada begins just to the south of the Casa de Lago, and west of the Lago Menor. Along the route, the following poets are honored with busts and brief explanations of their work.
The only real problem with identifying the Calzada de los Poetas is that it’s thick in the midst of multiple other historic monuments. A monumento to Estridentismo, the arts and literary movement of the 1920s and 30s is practically in the middle. Several others are peppered throughout the surrounding forest. The Paseo del Quijote, with accompanying sculptures, intersects nearly at the halfway mark of the Calzada. The beloved Fuente del Quijote is at the far western end of this walkway.
