Arena Coliseo is the original home of professional wrestling in Mexico City. It was initially built to host boxing matches aimed at fans from Tepito and the surrounding neighborhoods. Located in the heart of Mexico City’s Historic Center, “El Embudo de Perú 77” (as it is also known) is an important part of the city’s popular culture.
It was originally founded by Salvador Lutteroth González, considered the father of Mexican professional wrestling, and was inaugurated in 1943. The need for this venue became evident after the fire at Arena Nacional in 1937.
Recognized as the oldest wrestling arena in the world, it was the scene of legendary memorable matches such as the historic mask v mask duel between El Santo and Black Shadow in 1952.
Today, this historic venue opens its doors every Saturday at 7:30 p.m., offering national and international visitors the chance to experience an authentic cultural event where tradition, history, and spectacle come together in one of the most emblematic symbols of Mexican popular identity.
