Mario Moreno Cantinflas Museum

Dedicated to preserving and promoting the legacy of one of Mexico’s most iconic comedians. Located in the Roma Norte neighborhood, the venue offers a journey through the life of Mario Moreno Reyes, from his first steps in popular shows to his consolidation as a figure in national and international cinema. Its opening at the end of 2026 added a space to Mexico City’s cultural offerings dedicated to reviewing the artistic and human trajectory of a character whose language, humor, and social critique are part of the country’s collective memory.

The exhibition gathers more than 400 pieces, including original objects, costumes, photographs, documents, scripts, audiovisual materials, and awards. These elements allow visitors to reconstruct different stages of the actor’s life and understand how the character of Cantinflas developed, known for his unique way of speaking, verbal wit, and ability to turn everyday situations into humorous scenes. The museographic proposal integrates interactive and immersive resources that aim to bring these contents to new generations without losing sight of the historical context in which his films and theatrical performances emerged.

The tour is organized into thematic cores addressing Mario Moreno’s childhood and family environment, his early work in popular tent shows (carpas), his arrival in theater, and his career in film and television. It also explores his international projection and the relationship between the artist and the character that ultimately became a pop culture reference. Thus, visitors can recognize that behind the comedian in baggy pants, a t-shirt, a gabardine coat, and a hat, there was a professional who developed an international career and built an unmistakable stage identity.

Cantinflas’s relevance transcends comedy. Through his characters, Mario Moreno addressed inequalities, bureaucracy, abuse of power, and contradictions of social life, with a style that brought these topics closer to broad audiences. The visit allows a closer look at both the emblematic moments of his career and the personal and professional aspects that contribute to understanding his dimension as a public figure.

The permanent exhibition, titled “Aquí está el detalle” (Here is the detail), proposes a visit of approximately one hour and has staff to guide the public during the tour. The mezzanine also houses a cafeteria and a store, whose services operate independently from the admission ticket.
