Mexican Olympic Museum (Museo Olímpico Mexicano)

Mexican Olympic Museum

The Mexican Olympic Museum is on the grounds of the Mexican Olympic Committee sports complex. The Committee opened the museum in 1994 to highlight achievements not just in the Olympics but in the Central American Caribbean Games, and the Pan American Games. The Committee is in charge of everything related to Mexican athletes meeting the conditions of the Olympic Charter.

    • The Mexican National Olympic Committee first met in 1923.
    • As a nation, Mexico’s first Olympic Games were in 1900.
    • The country has sent participants to every Summer Olympic Games since 1924.
    • Mexico has participated in several Winter Olympic Games since 1928, but has never been awarded a medal.
    • A total of 69 medals have been awarded to Mexican athletes.
    • The top medal-producing sport is diving.

Visitors are invited to the Medalists Corridor which displays medals, photos, and briefs descriptions of some of the many achievements of the Committee and the athletics community. Depending on the time of year, one may also glimpse athletes arriving from all over the country as the Committee also offers training, workshops, and conferences related to international athletics and games.

The Mexican Olympic Museum is within the larger Hipódromo de las Américas racetrack complex. The complex includes, perhaps most prominently, the Centro Citibanamex convention and meeting center.  It’s also home to a casino, a military hospital, and a small amusement park for kids.
