Galerías Cristóbal

Galerías Cristóbal has been a Zona Rosa institution since it opened in 1960. Some 64 years later, it’s still one of Mexico City’s leading dealers in Latin American, Mexican, and European art works from the 17th through the 21st centuries. Today, it’s an old school gallery, with a reputation that is probably unfairly slanted towards antiques.

In fact, Cristóbal has always been a local expert on Mexican Art from the 20th century. Some of the gallery’s holding are older. But they’re also strong participants in important local art fairs. Current director, Pablo Cristóbal, also runs a consultancy for some of Mexico’s top collectors, institutions, and museums. And the space in Zona Rosa has remained a constant, even while most of the blue chip art business has moved even from Polanco, to points further west.

The hardcore center of Zona Rosa has remained a haven for collectors of antiques and collectibles. But the art is in there too. Galerías Cristóbal is among the most prominent, in part because it faces the Plaza del Ángel, a multi-dealer mini mall of antiques, especially. Cristóbal’s windows often showcase some of the most important art for sale on the street, and likely in the entire neighborhood.

Hours: Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
