Estadio Jesús Martínez “Palillo”

Located in the heart of the Magdalena Mixiuhca Sports City, in the Iztacalco borough, this venue benefits from a privileged location within the metropolis’s main mass entertainment hub. It is flanked by colossi of the stature of the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez and the Palacio de los Deportes, which grants it unbeatable visibility and total connectivity.

This multipurpose stadium was inaugurated in 1964 and bears its peculiar name in honor of its main financial promoter and architectural designer: the famous comedic and political satire actor, Jesús Martínez “Palillo”, who channeled significant personal resources to provide the youth with a dignified space for popular sports.

The venue gained international relevance just four years after its opening when it was chosen as the official venue for the field hockey competitions during the Mexico 1968 Olympic Games. To this end, its stands and field were adapted to the technical requirements of the Olympic Committee.

Over the decades, the vocation of the stadium diversified enormously. Today it features a regulation tartan track for athletics and a certified synthetic grass field that made it the modern cradle of professional American football in Mexico, hosting exciting seasons and the Tazón México of the LFA (Professional American Football League).

Currently, with a capacity exceeding 6,000 spectators, the “Palillo” Martínez remains a highly active venue. It hosts athletic championships, soccer leagues, high-performance training, and, thanks to its esplanade, occasionally serves as a stage for artistic festivals aimed at the city’s youth.

How to get there: Through the northern access of the sports complex, the Ciudad Deportiva and Puebla stations (Metro Line 9) are the ideal arrival points. Through the southern access, the Goma, UPIICSA, and El Rodeo stations (Metrobús Line 2) offer an unbeatable pedestrian approach.
