The Ajusco Area is important not just as a giant outdoor and adventure destination. It's also a popular constellation of little historic towns. The surrounding countryside and farmland just make it that much nicer.
Although Tlalpan, in the south of Mexico City, is well-known for its original settlements, in Ajusco you'll find a concentrated mix of them. From San Miguel and the sister town of Santo Tomás, the landscape only gets more inviting.
For those actually on adventure, these are welcoming towns and much needed comfort. For those of us just touring the landscape in a car, they're destinations to be savored. From rugged Topilejo with its extensive farm fields, to more familiar points along the Cuernavaca Bikeway, it's a verdant and mountainous area. And the points below are just the most prominent.
