Occupying an old warehouse with sheet metal roofs in the Roma Norte neighborhood, this place functions as a cult space for pure dancing, dispensing with reserved zones, VIP areas, or traditional table service. Crossing the entrance, the attendee finds an immense industrial warehouse with polished cement floors and dark walls decorated with fluorescent paint. It has no seating or resting areas on the ground floor.
The sound proposal is devoted to High Energy, Italo disco, synth-pop, and electronic rhythms of the forties, eighties, and nineties. The DJ operates from an elevated booth at the back of the warehouse, launching continuous sequences supported by a laser light installation that projects geometric patterns over artificial smoke and the crowd. The volume is high and lacks pauses.
The dance dynamic breaks with traditional couple formats. In the center of the cement, so-called “retas” form spontaneously, human circles where dancers enter to demonstrate high-speed, coordinated urban dance steps. Spectators surrounding the circles clap to the beat and give way to new participants in an atmosphere of direct competition.
Consumption logistics are simple and use a token system. At the entrance, plastic tokens are purchased, which are later exchanged at the side bars for beers in disposable cups, bottled water, or straight shots of rum and vodka with a mixer. There are no waiters or printed menus, optimizing the quick dispatch of liquids so the customer returns to the dance floor.
Recommended clothing demands absolute practicality due to high physical activity and the absence of complex air conditioning systems. Sneakers, cotton t-shirts, and cool clothing are the common norm. It brings together a diverse audience in age, from veterans of the original 80s movement to university students, sharing a dynamic of high physical endurance.
