El Jaleo

Installed opposite Lincoln Park in Polanco, El Jaleo operates as an Andalusian tablao fused with a Spanish tapas bar. The venue is dimly lit, with high tables and stools surrounding a small dark wooden stage designed to resist and amplify the force of the dance boots, in a highly warm atmosphere.

The rhythmic intensity of the venue centers on flamenco, rumba, bulería, and cante jondo, mainly in its traditional “Domingo de Arroces” (Sunday of Rices). The place usually schedules live shows starring cantaores, Spanish guitar virtuosos, and bailaoras who execute footwork. The organic acoustic format floods the space with clapping and guitars.

The audience gathers Polanco visitors and flamenco art lovers. Interaction in the place leads attendees to accompany the rhythms by marking claps from their seats. Attire usually leans towards formal or urban weekend options.

The gastronomic menu serves Iberian portions to share at the center of the table: mixed paellas, serrano ham, creamy croquettes, patatas bravas, and padrón peppers. The bars accompany the menu with pitchers of sangria prepared with fresh fruit, European beers, and glasses of wine.

Depending on the programming, access to the tablao usually requires the payment of a show fee or “cover” that is added to the final consumption bill, and it is recommended to verify its current billboard for reservation due to the capacity of the room.
