Bazar Sábado

Originally established in 1960 on Doctor Gálvez Street, this project found its permanent home five years later when it moved across from Plaza San Jacinto. Volcanic stone walls, thick wooden beams, and cobblestone walkways now frame the leading center for independent art and contemporary crafts in San Ángel, creating an oasis where tradition harmoniously blends with modern design.

National and international visitors flock here every weekend to discover an unparalleled offering, characterized by direct sales between creators and the public. Artisans, designers, and visual artists display true gems of Mexican identity in their shops, ranging from fine Taxco silverware and high-temperature ceramics to backstrap loom textiles, wood carvings, and contemporary jewelry. International accolades attest to the quality of its exhibitors, including the triumph of three of its ceramic artists in a Parisian competition organized by the painter Pablo Picasso during the 1970s.

Vibrant marimba music fills the covered central courtyard, imbuing the space with a festive and incredibly welcoming atmosphere that invites visitors to linger. Entire families stroll among the colorful stalls, savoring local cuisine, which ranges from traditional snacks to typical sweets. This vibrant mix of colors, flavors, and sounds transforms the simple act of shopping into an experience that celebrates the country’s rich cultural heritage at its finest.

The commercial and community dynamics of the San Ángel neighborhood have been profoundly transformed thanks to the magnetic influence of this foundational space. Art galleries, independent boutiques, and quaint cafes have gradually blossomed on the surrounding streets, turning the area around Plaza San Jacinto into an artisan circuit. Wandering these streets represents much more than acquiring a decorative object; it means supporting local talent, preserving ancestral crafts, and being part of a creative community that keeps alive the creative legacy of one of Mexico City’s most beloved districts.

Hours: Saturdays from 10:00 to 19:00.
