Sierra de Guadalupe

Recognized as a Natural Protected Area (ANP), the Sierra de Guadalupe functions as a vital green circuit for Mexico City, providing essential environmental services such as aquifer recharge and climate regulation.

Despite being surrounded by dense urban settlements, this ecological refuge preserves trails of oak forests and scrublands that invite direct contact with nature and adventure tourism.

The mountain range consists of approximately twenty-two peaks, each with a distinct history and function.

Pico Tres Padres stands out as the highest summit at 3,000 meters above sea level, while Cerro del Chiquihuite is easily identifiable by its concentration of telecommunications antennas.

At the southern end, the sierra integrates into the country's spiritual life through the Cerro del Tepeyac—the smallest in the chain—a site where tradition places the Marian apparitions that gave rise to the construction of the Basilica of Guadalupe, a sanctuary that ultimately baptized the entire mountain range.

Exploring this territory is today simpler and more attractive thanks to Cablebús Line 1.

The aerial journey offers spectacular views of the hills of Zacatenco, Guerrero, and Chiquihuite, allowing tourists and locals to quickly access previously remote areas.

Entrances like Los Nísperos or Tokio Street in the Malacates neighborhood are strategic points to start hiking walks, mountain biking routes, or visits to Deportivo El Vivero Cuautepec, a wellness complex located in the conservation area.

Visiting the Sierra de Guadalupe offers a fascinating contrast between the immensity of the urban sprawl and the silence of the summits.

Whether touring the viewpoints of Cerro Los Gachupines or going into the borders with the State of Mexico at Cerro del Tenayo, the visitor discovers a landscape of rock and wildlife that has witnessed the evolution of the Valley of Mexico since pre-Hispanic times.

Ideal for those seeking landscape photography and a profound understanding of the geography that embraces the north of the great city.
