Iztacalco

Itzacalco is an important alcaldía in the east of Mexico City. An ancient island enclave, the historic center contains some of the most pristine examples of colonial era religous art.

The community was, according to tradition, founded 1309. Much of its history was devoted to the production of salt. Today, it's the smallest, and the most densely populated of the 16 alcaldias of Mexico City

The Iztacalco Center is a popular site for weekend strolls, historical fact finding, and just for exploring.

Much of the rest of the Iztacalco is devoted to the popular Ciudad Deportiva (Sports City). It's easily the biggest sports complex in the City, although there are many others.
