The Mundial Matches

Globally known as the Colossus of Santa Úrsula, this venue—temporarily renamed Estadio Ciudad de México due to FIFA regulations—is the only one that has seen “O Rei” Pelé (1970) and Diego Armando Maradona (1986) lift the cup.

In 2026, the stadium—the work of architect Pedro Ramírez Vázquez—underwent the most profound renovation in its history. The lower ring was completely rebuilt to bring fans closer to the pitch, a sustainable roofing system was implemented, VIP areas and dressing rooms were modernized to European standards, and state-of-the-art LED lighting was installed. All this while keeping its brutalist architecture and profound acoustics for 83,000 spectators intact.

The Mexico City Stadium will host five of the most anticipated matches of the World Cup:

  • June 11, 2026: Mexico vs. South Africa. A nod to fate. Both teams opened the 2010 World Cup; today they clash again in the first phase. Mexico will seek to assert the historical weight of its mythical pitch against the agile “Bafana Bafana.”

  • June 17, 2026: Uzbekistan vs. Colombia. The historic coffee-growing national team, backed by thousands of South Americans who will travel to CDMX, faces the emerging and disciplined defensive wall of the Asian squad.

  • June 24, 2026: Czechia vs. Mexico. A duel with a taste of historical revenge. It was against Czechoslovakia that Mexico achieved its first victory in World Cup history (in Chile 1962). The national fanbase will prepare a monumental mosaic for this group stage closing.

  • June 30, 2026: Crucial Round of 32 match.

  • July 5, 2026: Round of 16 match (Defining the great guests for the final stretch of the tournament).
