At the entrance of the Calzada Juventud Heroica, is the Altar a la Patria, a work of architect Enrique Aragón Echegaray and sculptor Ernesto Tamariz that pays homage to the six cadets of the Military College, known as the Niños Héroes, recognized for sacrificing their lives during the Battle of Chapultepec.

This monument, inaugurated in 1952, is formed by six marble columns crowned by bronze eagles and torches. In the center is located “La Patria”, represented by a female figure holding in her arms one of the fallen cadets, while another stands with a heroic gesture at her side.

The figures are wrapped by the National Flag and at their feet is read the phrase: “To the defenders of the Homeland 1846-1847”.
