“La creación” de Diego Rivera

It is located inside the Antiguo Colegio de San Ildefonso, its importance lies in it being the first Rivera mural in Mexico, painted in encaustic, i.e. with hot wax to fix the pigments.

At the time of its creation (1922) it was the Anfiteatro Bolívar de la Escuela Nacional Preparatoria and was the proscenium, the artist’s canvas, where he combined naturalistic elements with symbols. At the center you can see the figure of a man with open arms outstretched, while the added flora and wildlife were the result of observations of the artist in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec.
