Parque Verónica Anzures

The Parque Verónica Anzures seems to enjoy a reputation vastly bigger than the park’s modest physical size. It’s the crown jewel of the Colonia Verónica Anzures. Both are named for the patron saint of the chapel of the old Anzures Ranch. That ranch lasted until the end of the 19th century.

The ranch was subdivided, along with the Colonia Anzures to the south, at the beginning of the 20th century. Since then, it’s been a transitional residential area separating chic Polanco from the industrial zones to the north and northeast . Some light industry even survived on the edge of Verónica Anzures. The neighborhood’s most prominent resident is, of course, the Pemex Tower. But the Galerías Plaza de las Estrellas shopping center might vie for similar recognition.

  • The park is dedicated to the pianist and composer Pedro Ernesto Plascencia Salinas (1956-1994).  was a Mexican pianist and composer. He died at only 37 years old, but was much loved for the music he wrote for Television.

Today the Parque Verónica Anzures is a beloved patch of green in the neighborhood’s otherwise fast-changing dynamic. With the neighboring Anáhuac neighborhoods, it’s quickly becoming part of the larger cultural and visual arts destination to rival even Polanco to the west.
